Since the Government made their announcement to close all pubs on the 20th March, we have been searching for the best way to support our local communities through the COVID-19 outbreak.

On Monday the 6th April, The Old Badger Pub in Eastington teamed up with The Eastington Coronavirus Charity to launch a Free Community Meals Programme.

The Free Community Meals Programme is a voluntary initiative offering free food for the over 70’s and vulnerable in the village of Eastington and surrounding areas.

Our Old Badger General Managers, Mark and Heather Frazer and their two Chefs Emily Pegler and Andrew Bingham, have volunteered to cook up a storm twice a week utilising the pub kitchen.

Members of the public can now phone the pub on a Monday or Thursday between 11am – 2pm to nominate someone they know who would benefit from a free meal. The meal is then delivered to the customer the following afternoon.

Feedback on the initiative has been incredibly positive, with over 70 meals delivered last week from a standing start and another 100 to go out this week.  Members of the Eastington community have flooded the Pub’s Facebook page to thank the team and leave comments on the excellent quality of the food, with one customer rating the meal six out of 5 stars!

Ian Frost, Commercial Director for Wickwar Wessex Pub Company says, “In these unprecedented times, it’s fantastic that we are able to utilise one of our pubs to support The Eastington Coronavirus Charity. The local community is at the heart of everything we do as a business, so we’re delighted to help some of the elderly or more vulnerable members of the community in this way”.

Keep up the great work guys!
